[WardFive] Crime Prevention/Neighborhood Watch Training Details - Must Pre-Register (July 12th or 21st 7pm)

Good Morning,

Please help spread the word and encourage residents to attend this virtual training (zoom) and consider possibly being a block captain. Note that you must pre-register by emailing Samantha Nolan (nolantutor@gmail.com) which date you want to sign up for and provide your full name, email address and type of dwelling (whether you live in a house, condo, townhome, coop, high rise etc).

Thank you for your interest in Crime Prevention/Neighborhood Watch training .You may have signed up previously, but not been able to attend the training. Here is another chance for you.

Below are details about the training.

The training is in two parts. The first section is on Preventing Crimes of Opportunity which make up about 80% of all crimes in DC. I will present pictures of behaviors that lead to these crimes so you will learn what not to do. I will also show suggestions for remedies to help prevent these crimes.

The second section will be on starting a Neighborhood Watch (NW) program on your block or on your Apt./condo/dorm floor. You can then share the crime prevention tips with your neighbors and help them prevent becoming a crime victim.

I will begin the training at 7:00. The waiting room will be open as of 6:45 so we can check everyone in and can start on time. Only individuals who have signed up for the training may participate. There will be no video or audio for participants during the training, but you may write questions in the Q & A box. Many of your questions may be answered as we go along. If not, I will address them at the end of each section.

After the training, I will send each participant copies of all the documents shown during the training that you will need to start your NW program on your block or on your floor. You will have my email address and can ask questions about how to use the documents if it is unclear during the training. Only those who attend the training will receive the follow-up documents.

My goal is to teach residents of the city ways to decrease their likelihood of becoming a crime victim while creating a community of neighbors on each block or in each apartment/condo/dorm building that can work together to fight crime in our city.

If you would like to join me for the training on either July 12 or July 21, please send me an email with your full name, email address you want to use for the training, and whether you live in a house, condo, coop, door, townhouse or other. Let me know which training you want to attend so I can send you the link to join on Zoom. I look forward to seeing you at the training.

Thank you for helping to drive crime down in DC.

Samantha Nolan
Citywide Crime Prevention and Neighborhood Watch Trainer
