Mother's Day has almost arrived and with Mother's Day on Sunday there will be all kinds of reflections, celebration, warm thoughts, and shared sentiments and it is all deserved! For we have all been blessed by a Mother, an Elder, someone who took a special interest in us and our well-being and growth. Mother's Day is a day that is set aside to ponder with fondness and gratitude all of the moments and ways we have been tended to and because of that nurture have grown into the women and men we are today. Thank you Mothers! Thanks to all of the women who have loved us and raised us.
Also during this time of year there are those who feel sorrow and remorse because they do not have children that they can look to and call their own. This is a natural feeling for those who do not have children because so much emphasis is placed on Mothers on this day. But I want to remind you that you do not have to have children to Mother and mentor someone, and I would guess that as you take an inventory of your life you will see emerge the many instances that someone has been touched by you, transformed because of you, and have grown into an exceptional human being because of you. To that I would say, thank you Mother. Thanks to all who have cared for and loved a child, a little one, or a young person that needed to know that someone cared. Thank you Mothers (Women) for mothering our community and our world!
I am reminded of that dramatic scene in John 19.26 when Jesus is on the cross and he looks down to see his Mother and those who care about Jesus gathered together to witness his horrifying death, and with his last strength he assigned his Mother a new son, and his disciple a new Mother. He said, "Woman, here is your son.' 27Then he said to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home." We are called to care and nurture one another, assist one another in overcoming the difficulties of life, and nurturing each other through the journey of living. Happy Mother's Day all!
As we celebrate Mother's Day this Sunday we will be blessed with Minister Ronya Lee Anderson-Thompson who will be preaching. If you were in Mid-Week Service this past Thursday you would have been moved by the powerful and clear preaching and teaching of Minister Anderson-Thompson. You will be blessed with her insight and passion at both our 8 am and 11 am services.
...from one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded." (Luke 12.48b)

Our sincere appreciation and
thanks to all those youth, young people, parents and friends who helped to make the first youth and children's car wash such a success on May 5, 2012. We would like to extend a special thanks to Deacon William Taylor who greatly assisted us with our young people to make this venture a great success. The Parent Supporters' group are grateful to all those who contributed their time, resources and services to help raise funds for our Youth. May God continue to richly reward you.
Deacon Ann Charlotte,Secretary, Youth Choir Parents Supporters' Group.
Rev. Hagler, and Plymouth Church: We are deeply grateful for all of your prayers, outpouring of love and concern during the recent heat attack of my husband, John. With the touch of God's healing hands, he is now home after four weeks in Doctor's Hospital and seventeen days at National Rehabilitation Hospital. I ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers. Please know I will always cherish the memories of your love and caring during a very difficult time. Thank you, Deacon Margie Word and family
Members of the DC Emergency Assistance Fund (DCEAF) celebrated each other in a luncheon held last Friday, May 4, 2012. It was a delicious and celebatory affair, with the wonderful foods prepared by Sister Leola Simmons and the hospitality of the Assistance Fund Chair, Deacon Margie Word. The luncheon was to thank all of the hardworking and dedicated staff of volunteers that made the Assistance Fund such a wonderful success. Shown in the picture are: (from left) Brother Bernard Price, Sister Martha Powell, Sister Barbara Tollerson, Sister Leola Simmons, Sister Margie Word, Sister Joy Majied, Sister Valencia Rosette, Sister Barbara Freeman and Sister Dorisene Price. The Emergency Assistance Fund was discontinued due to the lack of continued government funding. It is sad, but in this time of great need when funders such as FEMA and others should be stepping up to the plate in a concerted effort, we have however witnessed programs for the needy and poor cut in efforts to balance budgets. Unfortunately, cuts are always made on the neediest of communities and cripples those willing to serve.
The Food Pantry continues to serve the community faithfully every single
Saturday from 10 am until 12noon Those who are in need the services of Plymouth Food Pantry come to the program with a referral from an agency and then committed volunteer staff members of the food pantry take care of each family with love and Christian care. The volunteers bag the food, others do intake and keep records of those who come to and through the program, and families are given enough food to tie them over for awhile. This program is ENTIRELY supported from the budget of Plymouth, which means that members of Plymouth, through their tithes provide for families in need of this vital service. Have you donated to the Food Pantry recently? I don't mean have you taken money from the current expenses of the church and sent it to the Food Pantry instead! But, have you made a special offering to the food pantry in this time of great need while keeping your support of the current expenses of the church up to date and generous. If you would like to make a special donation for the Food Pantry I encourage you to click on the "Give Now" button located near the top of the page. You will be redirected to our secure online giving site. You may also want to volunteer to serve in the Food Pantry. You can speak with anyone in the Food Pantry to do so or see Sister Joan Coltrane (In the picture is shown at the head of the table, Sister Joan Coltrane, Chair, Plymouth's Food Pantry).

In the wake of the killing of Trayvon Martin, The Koch company which manufactures paper products is paying for Zimmerman's legal fees because they feel he had the legal right to bare arms and shoot Trayvon. I am asking that people everywhere ban together and pass this information on and consider what you may be doing when purchasing any of the following items: Angel Soft Toilet Paper, Brawny Paper Towel, Dixie Plates, Bowls, Napkins, and Cups, Marci Gras Napkins, and Towels, Quilted Northern Toilet Paper, Soft and Gentile Toilet Paper, Sparkle Napkins, Vanity Fair napkins, and Zero Napkins. Your money may be helping to pay for Zimmerman's attorney fees. Please think before you buy!
