September 11, 2012
On the eleventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks,
the Ward 5 Democratic Committee joins all District of Columbia residents and Americans in remembering and
praying for those who lost their lives and for those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.
The Ward 5 Democratic Committee gratefully honors all the first emergency responders and
public service employees such as our DC public school teachers, members of the DC Metropolitan Police Department,
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, District of Columbia National Guard, and
DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency
for their courage and acts of heroism.
The Ward 5 Democratic Committee further recognizes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of
America’s armed services serving on duty around the world.
The Ward 5 Democratic Committee sends a special remembrance to DC Public Schools students and teachers lost on that day:
Bernard Brown, of Leckie Elementary School;
Rodney Dickens of Ketcham Elementary School;
Asia Cottom, of Backus Middle School;
Ms. Hilda Taylor, a sixth grade teacher at Leckie;
Mr. James Debeuneure, a fifth grade teacher at Ketcham; and
Ms. Sarah Clark, a sixth grade teacher at Backus School.
Each of us should honor them as we continue to heal, show compassion, understanding, peace toward each other
as a community, as a city, and as a nation.
