Hi Jenn:
Maybe my memory fails, but I remember Ian in a Grumman with his dad years ago, running downstream from Old Anglers when the level was above 5 feet, using a high-kneel position they maintained clear to Sycamore Island. I defer to others to check the archives.
I note it was not the year when Chessa and I and Rocky used a Grumman and won the tandem class without legal airbags (beating all contenders with and without K-9 company). For the record this is a small and illicit class that I discourage joining.

Thanks Randy for posting! Just a few wee little corrections.
Gavin was the CCA racer last year (not Ian), and his craft was handmade by his Dad, Jim Ross (not Grumman). Ian and Gavin are brothers.
And, as fast as Gavin is, and as beautiful as his handmade-by-dad boat was that day, he came in 3rd place, paddling solo in an open canoe, closely tracking the two wildwater kayakers ahead of him.
The overall winner of the CCA 2021 race was our own beloved Sandrine Deglin!! Sandrine blasted across the Sycamore Island finish in just under an hour to cinch 1st place and fastest overall!
The 2nd place racer that day was also a Bethesda native, Peter Lutter. I hear that Peter's dad also gets out on the water sometimes and with Peter's mom won the CCA race category of OC2+Dog in 2020! What a family!!
The 2022 CCA Race is coming up Saturday May14th - registration is now open, so pony up and be part of the 67th Annual Potomac Downriver Race, the longest consecutively run downriver race in the USA. A yummy picnic and race shirt is yours when you cross the finish line at Sycamore Island. Register here:

Jim Ross and his family will again be competing in this year's CCA race - come be part of our river history!
