The meeting will include an overview of the process from the Council budget office as well as an opportunity to share your budget ideas and priorities for Ward 5 and DC.

I hope you are enjoying the short break from Winter!  I want to make sure you are aware of a few key events taking place in February, starting tonight with Congresswoman Norton at UDC’s Community College.  This Sunday, we ring in the Chinese Lunar New Year “Year of The Pig” with the traditional Chinese New Year Parade, and please also join me next Tuesday, February 12th, as we honor a most distinguish Washingtonian, Ms. Casilda Luna during Black History Month.

The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) is holding its biggest and most diverse parade ever to ring in the 4717 Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Pig! Each year a parade is held in Chinatown to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The event features the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance, Kung Fu demonstrations and live musical entertainment. This is a great opportunity for you to come talk to the decision makers about why DC Equality matters to you. There will be two shifts available from 8a-1p or 12p-5p. Join us for one or both. This is a people-powered effort! Join us! We will provide training and breakfast and/or lunch. You'll be teamed up with leaders of the Statehood movement who will help lead the meetings and make sure you have a successful day. If you've never done advocacy or if you are a long-time citizen lobbyist, we will make sure you are set up for success!

[WardFive] DCPS Mid Winter Break Opportunities

Greetings Neighbors:

Mid winter break is upon us. Please share with a neighbor, friend or parent you know.

This year, DC Public Schools will have a February Recess from Tuesday, February 19 to Friday, February 22, beginning after the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 18. Over this break, we encourage our students and families to take advantage of these opportunities offered by DCPS and our city agency partners:

• Meals for DCPS Students: DCPS will offer free lunch for any interested DCPS student at:
• Anacostia High School, 1601 16th St. SE
• Columbia Heights Education Campus, 3101 16th St. NW
• Eastern High School, 1700 East Capitol St. NE
• H.D. Woodson High School, 540 55th St. NE.

Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from Tuesday, February 19 through Friday, February 22.
• DPR Mid-Winter Break Camps: The DC Department of Parks and Recreation will offer camps at locations across the district for students ages 6-12. The overarching theme for the camps will be "Move, Grow, and Be Green." The camps cost $40 per session per student for D.C. residents and payment is due at registration. Registration is open, so register to secure your spot today!

• Community Service: DCPS is partnering with Serve DC to provide our students meaningful opportunities for community service during the mid-winter break. This opportunity is available for 12th graders who need additional community service hours to be eligible for graduation. Please reach out to your school counselor or Terri-Ann Brown at terri-ann.brown@k12.dc.gov or (202) 698-1710 if your student is interested in participating in a service project during this break.
