FEMS and DOES to Offer Emergency Medical Technician Training Opportunities 

On Monday, August 13, 2012, FEMS and DOES will host an event to recruit and determine eligibility of potential training participants.

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) has contracted with Higher Development Academy to provide an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course and prepare graduates for the National Registry EMT Certification Exam.
The Department of Employment Services (DOES) and FEMS will host a preFEMS -screening event to recruit and determine eligibility of potential training participants on:

Time: 10 am – 2 pm

You must come professionally dressed, and please plan to arrive no later than 10 am, in order to participate in this pre-screening event.

Requirements for EMT Training:  
  • District Resident: Bring proof of ID or voter's registration card
  • At least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma/GED: Copy of diploma or self attestation accepted
  • Proof of Citizenship: Bring US Birth Certificate, US Passport or Permanent Resident Card
  • Social Security Number Verification: Bring Social Security card or other government-issued document
  • CASAS Test:  9th grade level in reading and math
    -Official scores of previously obtained CASAS assessments (within a three month
       period) may be presented at the time of prescreening
  • No felony record:  Background check to be administered by FEMS
  • Valid Driver's License: Or ability to obtain a Drivers License by completion of course
  • Immunization for TB: Proof required prior to scheduled hospital rotation
  • Available for full-time training in September 2012
  • Willingness to work hard to train for a good career
  • Dress Code: Business casual
The recruitment event will include:
1. Presentation on career opportunities for certified EMTs
2. Information on the recruitment and training process
3. CASAS testing
4. Registration and prescreening
5. Interviews with EMT course instructors
