Hello Resident,
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for between 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. today for the Washington metro area. Snow is expected to develop around lunchtime, and end in the evening with an accumulation of an inch or two. The DC Snow Team is pretreating all routes with rock salt beginning at 10:00 am. All routes are expected to be completed by 3:30 p.m. ahead of the evening commute. Given the weather, residents should expect leaf collection delays as leaf collection crews works as part of the DC Snow Team.
The DC Snow Team advises pedestrians and motorist to heed the following important safety tips:
• Keep a safe distance from emergency and snow vehicles and use caution when attempting to pass a snowplow – give drivers plenty of room to safely do their jobs.
• Take Metro as an alternative to driving.
• Drive cautiously and maintain safe speeds and distances from other vehicles.
• Drive carefully on bridges, ramps and other elevated structures, which can freeze before the roadway.
• Before a snow event, residents and businesses should apply abrasives to the sidewalks around their properties to reduce the possibility of icing.
The District's Snow Team is committed to faster completion of plowing and salting along major roads and residential streets, which in turn means more rapid return of normal traffic flow and earlier resumption of trash collection and other city services. Residents are asked to allow sufficient time for snow operations to be implemented. If their streets still have not been treated or plowed in a reasonable amount of time they should call the Mayor's Citywide Call Center by dialing 311.
