[WardFive] UDC alumni community archiving project

Dear UDC Alumni,

This year, my D.C. History classes at UDC are focusing on the history of UDC and its predecessor institutions -- Myrtilla Miner's School for Colored Girls, Miner Teachers College, Wilson Teachers College, D.C. Teachers College, Federal City College, Washington Technical Institute, and Antioch School of Law. One of the things we are doing is creating an online digital archives of UDC history, called UDC: A Visual History. In this archive, we'll be highlighting documents related to the history of the University and its predecessor institutions.

And, we are inviting UDC alumni to contribute to this archive! We are asking UDC alumni to contribute any documents they have that pertain to their experiences at UDC or any of its predecessor institutions, that they would like to have included in the public historical record of the university. To that end, we are holding a UDC Alumni Community Archiving Workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2:00-4:00 PM. The workshop takes places on UDC's Van Ness campus, in our Student Center, Ballroom A. At this workshop, my students and I will work with alumni to scan and catalog the documents alumni would like to share with us. Any documents you share with us will become publicly available.

We are looking for all sorts of materials that document your experience at the school! This could include diplomas, course syllabi, student newspapers you may still have, photographs from your time here, or any other two-dimensional items that we can scan.

If you are interested in participating, or if you have questions about the  project, please RSVP to Amanda Huron, at  amanda.huron@udc.edu, or (202) 274-7244.

Thank you!

Amanda
