Jim,
This sounds like a long, tough paddle. Congratulations!
The video is really well done. I like how it shows multiple runs of the same rapid, using different lines and different water levels. It's gorgeous river – very different scenery than around here!
Vortex is at 10:08, Westwall at 18:01, and Carson Falls at 22:46. Vortex looks like a pour-over hole – not a rapid! It would not be fun to get worked in that top hole.
Cheers,
Bill

Subject: cheat_training_group Forks of the Kern trip report
I ran the Forks of the Kern with a group of boaters from Kernville, CA last Sunday. It is my new favorite run. The paddling is fantastic, and the setting is beautiful! It was my graduation exercise for my 2019 paddling training. I got a B.
See the Team Socal video to get a feeling for it.
It is 15 to 17 miles of class IV/IV+ with three class V rapids. I felt comfortable on the class IV/IV+ after a summer of UY runs. The class V was a different story. I screwed up Vortex (V) and swam. I did fine on Westwall (V), and I walked Carson Falls (V). The 2 mile carry to the put-in is the crux! At least it is downhill.
I will do this run several times a year going forward. PM me if you are interested in my trip report and joining in a future run and paddling other sections of the Kern.
