Dear DC Statehood Supporter,
Thank you for Supporting D.C. Statehood. It is with great anticipation and hopes for the future of our magnificent city, indeed, the nation, that the Douglass Commonwealth Coalition, Inc (DCCI) invites you to join Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Statehood supporters from every Ward in the city at the "Make Good Trouble Dream March For D.C. Statehood, Green Earth, and Justice." DCCI will host a whole weekend of events commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1963 "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom" and highlighting D.C. Statehood.
Statehood is our Dream! The Dream March will kick off Saturday Morning, August 28, 2021, with a Rally at Freedom Plaza from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. At 10:30 AM, D.C. Statehood supporters will march in unison to the "Make Good Trouble" rally at the Lincoln Memorial. Then, D.C. Statehood leaders will speak at the Lincoln Memorial, where Dr. King made his celebrated "I Have a Dream" speech. The program will commence at 11:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM in the afternoon. Next, Veterans United for D.C. Statehood will wrap up the day with a Candlelight Vigil on the West Side of the Capitol from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
On the following day, Sunday, August 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, the Interfaith Community and DCCI will co-host commemoration services at Freedom Plaza to pray for D.C. Statehood, a Green Earth, and Equal Justice for all. The weekend will culminate with the inaugural session of the National Justice Roundtable (a virtual event), where progressive organizations from around the nation have agreed to make D.C. Statehood the highest priority.
D.C. Statehood has never been more significant than it is right now. Your role in the Statehood Movement, and your support for freedom and justice, in general, make you uniquely qualified to speak and deliver a message of hope for our cause at these events. We hope you will join us and make D.C. Statehood a priority issue during this historic weekend. To register and see the full schedule of events, please go to our website at www.douglasscommonwealth.us.
If you have any questions, email us at: info@douglasscommonwealth.us, or call us at (240) 885-9589. We look forward to working with you to make Washington, D.C. America's 51st State.
Sincerely,
