[WardFive] RE: Update: Missed Trash/Recycling Collection

Mr. Twine,

Our trash was not put for today Wednesday because the City Government was closed Monday and we were using the formula  that our collection would move back  a day.  Needless to say, when we got up this morning the truck for the green can had already been through 4900 block of Sargent. The recycle not picked up. Now with Monday, January 21 being a holiday we will have two weeks of garbage/trash on Thursday, January 24.

Did we miss the notification?

Dear District Residents:

The Department of Public Works (DPW) has missed trash and recycling collections in some areas of the city due to recent inclement weather.  Last weekend's snow event left many District alleyways difficult for trash and recycling trucks to safely traverse.   We are asking residents to leave their trash and recycling at their usual point of collection and we will collect by this weekend, wherever possible.  DPW will not issue sanitation tickets to those residents whose regular collection has been missed.

We apologize for this delay and thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Regards,

Kevin

Sharing -   a car ( 2017 dark gray Kia Niro) was stolen this morning around 7:30 in front of 20th and Varnum.

While it was running and locked. An eyewitness observed that it looked like two cars, a blue Toyota Corolla and a white SUV were working together.

No tag or description of drivers to report but we have reported this information to the police.

Please take extra precautions even on these chilly mornings--a cold car is better than a stolen one!

[WardFive] DPW to Observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21st

DPW to Observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21st

Sanitation and Holiday Tree Collection Services Will be Suspended for the Day

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21; therefore, sanitation services and most parking enforcement will be suspended and will resume on Tuesday, January 22.

  • Trash and recycling collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will "slide" to the next day for the remainder of the week. In twice-a-week collection neighborhoods, Monday's and Thursday's collections will slide to Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday's and Friday's collections will slide to Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Holiday tree collections will resume on Tuesday, January 22.
  • The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed on the holiday, reopening the following day.
  • DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, rush hour lane restrictions or tow abandoned vehicles Monday, January 21, except along the streetcar line.

"Blocked" Streetcar Parking Enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, along H Street and Benning Road, NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE. The hours of enforcement are concurrent with the streetcar schedule. Normal enforcement citywide resumes Tuesday, January 22.

Kevin
