Dr. Vernise Steadman

The University of the District of Columbia mourns the loss of beloved and longtime faculty member, former Mathematics Department chair, and University friend, Dr. Vernise Steadman. Dr. Steadman, well recognized for her mathematics expertise and dedication to Mathematics students across the District, initiated her tenure with the University of the District of Columbia in 1973. With expertise that crossed a wide swath of mathematics sub-disciplines – pure mathematics, functional analysis, and differential equations, Dr. Steadman taught a variety of courses and directed a number of mathematics related events on campus and across the city. She served as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of the District of Columbia for eight years and was responsible for initiating and shepherding the James Joseph Mathematics Scholarship. Dr. Steadman earned three degrees from Howard University (BS 1972, MS 1975, and PhD 1988) and maintained her ties with the Howard community via her scholarship, teaching, and service activities. Dr. Steadman was a valued member of the University of the District of Columbia Community and she will be sorely missed.
Funeral services for Dr. Steadman will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at Israel Baptist Church, 1251 Saratoga Avenue NE. Visitation is at 11:00 AM. Funeral services begin at noon.
