Subject: Vote for Ed Lazere - early voting has started and primary is June 19
Hi Friends and Neighbors,
This week we have the opportunity to vote for change and bring progressive leadership to the head of the DC Council. The Democratic Primary is June 19 and early voting starts on June 4. I'm writing to let you know that I enthusiastically support Ed Lazere for Chair of the DC Council, and I encourage you to do the same.

The Washington Post calls the race for DC Council Chair "the marquee race" and the City Paper, the "de facto title fight (see additional media)." The outcome will have a profound effect on the future of the District and we need your help to get out the vote. As you know, the Democratic Primary is often considered the "real election" in DC, because the candidate who wins the Democratic primary almost always goes on to win the General Election.
Ed has worked on local issues for almost two decades. As the founder and Executive Director of the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, he has led efforts to win a higher minimum wage, more affordable housing, more resources for high-poverty schools and paid family and medical leave.
He is running against a long-time incumbent because the current chair of the council has not done enough to close the education achievement gap or responded adequately to the many scandals that have rocked our public schools. Ed's opponent led the effort to repeal and replace paid family leave and fought to cut taxes for families with $5 million estates, a Republican priority in a Democratic city.
We need an experienced progressive at the head of the DC Council. Ed has served on multiple citywide commissions and has been described by the Washington Post as an influential leader and a "leading advocate for the poor." His advocacy has helped hundreds of thousands of working families across the District and he has the proven leadership to move important legislation.
Ed is committed to fighting for all working families, especially Black and Brown residents who have been left behind in recent years (policy platform here). He has been endorsed by some of DC's leading progressive organizations (endorsers here), and he is only taking money from individuals, not big businesses or corporate PACs.
I hope you'll vote for Ed Lazere for Chair of the DC Council. The DC Democratic Primary is June 19, and early voting starts June 4. You can find your polling location here.
