DPW to Observe Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 22

*Trash, recycling, leaf collection and most parking enforcement will be suspended.

*DPW will enforce parking restrictions along the streetcar line. 

*Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed.

To Residents of the District:

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will observe Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Sanitation services and leaf collection will be suspended on Thursday and resume Friday, November 23. Parking enforcement will be suspended both Thursday and Friday and will resume Monday, November 26. Further details of DPW’s holiday schedule are as follows:

  • Thursday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Friday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Thursday. Friday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Saturday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Friday.
  • The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed Thursday, November 22 and reopen on Friday.
  • Leaf collection operations will be suspended on Thursday, November 22 and will resume on Friday.
  • Streetcar parking enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, e.g., Thanksgiving, along H Street and Benning Road NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue NE. On Sundays and holidays, streetcar parking enforcement is between 8 am and 11 pm. Enforcement on Mondays—Thursdays is 6 am to midnight; and on Fridays and Saturdays, enforcement runs between 6 am and 2 am. Normal enforcement citywide of other parking violations resumes Saturday, November 24.
