The 712,000 residents of the District of Columbia have no vote in Congress; Representative Norton has a Congressional office, she can introduce legislation but she cannot vote on the bills she introduces. This is NOT democracy!

Join us this Thursday, June 24th at 8pm EST and meet past and current District of Columbia Congressional members and hear how they plan to help pass S51/HR51 - DC Admissions Act which will finally grant equality through statehood.

ImageHon. Charles J. Moreland is DC's first elected U.S. Representative serving from 1990 to 1994. He graduated from Antioch University and received his  JD in 1979. Charles is a skilled professional with more than 40 years experience in government relations, legislative drafting, political consulting, fundraising, client interaction, teamwork, and training with demonstrated abilities in advocacy for his clients and for people who are struggling with addiction.

ImageSenator Mike Brown is the junior Senator from the District of Columbia. Mike was elected to his third six-year term in 2018. His position is unpaid and in 2020 he spent $60,000 of his own funds to perform his duties.

During the House hearings on HR51 Senator Brown was invited to speak; he was barred from speaking at the Tuesday Senate rally and hearing on S51.

ImageHon. Franklin Garcia is a three terms "shadow" Representative serving from January 2015 to 2021. In 2020 he elected to run for DC City Council rather than seek a fourth term.

While we don't often think of the District of Columbia as "southern", DC residents live under even more repressive constraints than other southern states. Meet three of our Washington, DC  Democracy Center leaders working to be recognized as the Douglass Commonwealth.

In solidarity,

Andrea Miller
Founding Board Member
