Yes, she's a candidate backed by the charter school lobby (Democrats for Education Reform)!  I've been an "active" parent advocate since 1994, and my children attended both DCPS schools and DC charter schools. My parent advocacy includes the work I've done with the Ward 5 Council on Education and most recently with the Ward 5 Education Equity Committee, the Coalition for DC Schools (C4DC), and the Senior High Alliance of Parents, Principals and Educators (S.H.A.P.P.E.). I have never met Carissa and had not even heard of her name until she announced her candidacy for the Ward 5 seat on the State Board of Education (SBOE).
