MAYOR VINCENT C. GRAY Salutes FALLEN HEROES & D.C. Military for Fighting for Democracy Overseas While BEING Denied Rights at Home
WISHES DISTRICT RESIDENTS A SAFE MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY
(Washington, D.C.) – On the eve of the Memorial Day holiday, Mayor Vincent C. Gray salutes past and present members of the armed forces from the District of Columbia, and from across the United States, who sacrifice their lives to protect us. He also wishes District residents a safe holiday with families and friends.
“Memorial Day is a time when we honor all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and served with honor in the military, including District residents who have fought for freedom and democracy in all wars around the world,” said Mayor Gray. “We also honor the brave men and women from the nation’s capital currently on active and reserve duty. In saluting these hometown heroes, I remain determined to achieve autonomy, full representation and independence from congressional oversight for them and the families they leave behind,” he said.
Mayor Gray also notes the passing this past week of a true hero, Retired. Lt. Commander Wesley A. Brown, the first black graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy; and sends condolences to the family of the Dunbar High School graduate.
