Hello,
As you may know, Washington, D.C. has recently passed legislation decriminalizing marijuana<http://wapo.st/1f7N4mx>, which is now under review by the federal government. But there are many viewpoints on this issue, and a lot of policy creation left to do--rules, regulations, and legislation on a wide range of issues related to this change, including full legalization of marijuana in the District.
I'm writing to you today to invite you to help draft legislation for the full legalization of marijuana<http://districtofcolumbia.mymadison.io/docs/dg20--dc-marijuana-legalization-bill> with Washington, DC City Councilmember David Grosso in a new, online policy-making tool called Madison<http://www.wired.com/2013/10/madison-project/>.
As a leading expert in the area, the DC community and Councilmember Grosso are looking for help from people like you in order to get the legislation right from the start. And Madison, free software built by us at The OpenGov Foundation<http://opengovfoundation.org/madison-in-the-news/>, is the best way to provide input directly on the legislation: efficiently, on the Internet, and seamlessly with the policymaking process itself.
Madison connects citizens, experts like you, and elected officials, so that legislation is made effectively and transparently. Anyone with a username can vote, comment on, ask questions, and annotate it. Those comments, questions, and suggestions go straight back to the document sponsor - in this case, Councilmember Grosso - to be considered for incorporation into the legislation itself.
The marijuana legalization legislation will go fully-live in Madison during the third week of May, so now is the best time to start drafting.
Please reply to this email with questions or if you would like to be involved in drafting the legalization legislation from the start as part of the MadisonDC beta test. Our Executive Director Seamus Kraft is available at any time on the phone at 760-659-0631.
Have a great day and I look forward to hearing back from you,
Leili Slutz
