FYI - DCPS Blog Update Below

Greetings from Beijing!!!

We arrived safely in Beijing yesterday evening, exhausted but excited to finally be in China. After checking into the hotel, we had a quick dinner with our tour guide and the two MeToWe staff members, Megan and Reisha, that will be working with us on our service project.

After a good night's sleep, we grabbed a quick breakfast and then headed out into the city. Our first stop was Tiananmen Square, where we saw the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. After that we explored the Forbidden City and learned much about the imperial history of China. Our final stop was Summer Palace, the largest royal park in China, where we had the opportunity to learn more about Chinese history and ride a dragon boat across one of the park's beautiful lakes.

We ended the evening with a traditional dinner of Peking duck. Everyone seemed to like the duck, but a special shoutout to Henry, Jonathan and Mr. McGinty for not being brave enough to to sample the famous, or infamous, duck's head!
Perhaps the most interesting part of the day though, was the reaction our group received as we were walking around. Strangers were constantly asking to take pictures with us, excited about meeting genuine Americans. The kids felt like celebrities!

Tomorrow we're traveling to the Great Wall, so it should be another exciting day! Stay tuned for more updates!
