[WardFive] [FRIENDLY REMINDER] Preventing Underage Drinking in the District of Columbia

Greetings!

Just sending a friendly reminder for you and the youth that you work with and/or mentor about an upcoming event that we're having next Tuesday (4/30). April is, among other things, Alcohol Awareness Month and we've partnered with WUSA's Andrea McCarren and several community partners to host a FREE underage drinking awareness event for youth at the MLK Jr. Memorial Library downtown from 4pm-6pm.

Just by attending youth can receive:
  • 3 hours of community service;
  • the opportunity to learn more about the dangers of underage drinking;
  • the opportunity to hear from other youth and their experiences with underage drinking;
  • a chance to participate in multiple raffles;
  • 2 additional community service hours if you're tested for HIV/AIDS or STDs; and
  • an opportunity to participate in a Real-Talk discussion and offer their own ideas of a future project.
That's a chance to receive 5 community service hours, great information, prizes and giveaways, and a fun interactive event as a youth leader.
There will also be a picture booth, information on summer jobs, music, live tweeting and more!

This isn't your typical, boring, seminar where we point fingers and say: "Don't drink, don't drink." I'm really looking forward to having a Real-Talk discussion with all who join so that youth can be responsible in the choices that you make on a day to day basis. Please support us in our initiatives by stopping by and encouraging your youth to attend!

Below and attached is the flyer.

Remember: What may have started as occasional use can turn into an addiction that presents extraordinary health concerns with potentially grave and tragic consequences.

See you on Tuesday!

Hope
