[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: Seeking Clarification

Eric,

U so smaaaart!! Maybe the "opposition" would be even larger if the community as a whole knew about everything.  When I was growing up, I had a guy in my class that had what we referred to as a "cock' eye -- you know where one eye is looking at you and the other looking at someone else at about a 45 degree angle. Well, having a conversation with him was always puzzling -- I didn't know if he was looking at me or the other person and it was always too embarrassing to ask.  And that's how almost all discussions are with you -- we don't know what the heck you are focused on and it is embarrassing to have to point that out!!

It's like I have to wave my index and middle finger (the peace sign) to get you to focus in on information being spared.

Howcome you haven't spoke to anyone who is against this being at this location or who wants the proper MOU prior to it occurring.  Or are you just going to leave that out and blame this on the "Protesting Few".

Did you explain that the opposition is not the School being located on Brookland Elementary property but instead taking over Turkey Thicket?
Did you explain that the opposition is that the School will be taking over most of the facilities during the day and we are unclear of the times during the afternoons/evenings that belong to Turkey Thicket?
Did you explain that Turkey Thicket will now be a tenant -- which must mean that DCPS will own the property?
Did you explain that DCPS has not worked out a MOU with the Community - which needs to be done first?
Did you explain that this plan to Co-locate the school/Turkey Thicket is over a year old and no one was informed, really misleading the community?  Ex. Was it too much for DCPS/W5COE (of past) to announce this over a year ago?
Did you explain that seniors are concerned that their ability to utilize the facility will be affected?
Did you explain that the Money that was allocated to renovate Turkey Thicket was being used to Renovate the School?
Did you explain that there is Half of Taft that is not being utilized that could be used for a Middle School?
Did you explain that an elementary school being placed at Brookland Elementary site was promised and would be much better?
Did you explain that placing a Middle School at Backus would be better for the use of Ward 5 and Ward 4 (Leslie)?
Did you explain that a Middle School at Bunker Hill would have been a much better choice?
Did you explain that as a DCPS site, they can eventually take over the entire site for their curriculum?
Did you explain that DCPS operates until 6pm?
Did you explain that at the other Co-Locations, there is a lot of issues -- says former worker of the those Recs?
Did you explain that people who will utilize Turkey Thicket have different work schedules will be unable to utilize it throughout the day -- especially when they use Turkey Thicket's funding to renovate the facility?
Did you explain that with all the Development arriving in this section of Ward 5, it would be great to Develop our Rec. Center and expand on it to have a real State-of-the-Art Recreational Facility that would be inclusive, year round and have more options?

So, if you don't get it -- The Protesting Few really do have many points that if we do speak on the same podium - given the same amount of time as those exploiting our communities, we would definitely identify the flaws in the approaches being taken. Maybe folks like you who financially benefit from being a Yes man and being used to push their agenda, refuse to but others definitely hear the logic.

Like I told you -- it is amazing that you can see a "Campus" style Middle school at a Rec. Center here in Turkey Thicket but you can't see a Campus Style Primary, Middle and High School at Spingarm's Campus.  Let's see, we have a Awesome new Track around a Football/Soccer Field, Tennis and Basketball Courts (just needing renovation) located to the only Golf Course near any schools throughout the City, has enough space to Build a State-of-the-Art Swim/dive facility, and enough space to have volleyball courts, gymnastics, indoor facilities for sporting events, etc. but you rather support a ______ trolley barn and the closing of the school with the promise of a "trade" school being placed there instead with a focus to fix trolleys.  Mind you, we have Trains and Buses throughout the city yet we don't have any programs to fix those.

Don't you see the contradiction there. Furthermore, it is amazing that there is such a need to tear down this school for a State of the Art facility and concern by DGS for "light" but Browne still looks the most like a JAIL -- while overlooking a Golf Course.  Like I told you before, I like to call Bluffs.  Kind of like visiting your Grandfather and that Trolley issue, let me visit the folks and have the conversation with you present and let's see if you get the same answers -- I will start with asking them if asking for a MOU to be agreed upon first is too much.   Then, I will give the options that are being brushed under the table that would be better -- everyone involved deserves better.

Let's see if these folks are compassionate to the concerns of others who also live in the community.  I'll be your "Hucka-berry"

Stop being so "cock-eyed".

Kathy,

It is funny that I know several who live around Turkey Thicket who in favor of the school coming and I'm sure that neither you nor I know all in the neighborhood.  I actually typed my email from my phone while at the home of one of them before venturing to my family home on Randolph Street.  Much like me they actually attended the old Brookland Elementary, played at the field house which was the original Turkey Thicket and grew up playing basketball on the courts and football of the field (which is now a baseball field).  They actually have a young child who will more than likely end up going to the new school and they are overjoyed about it.  Funny enough the exact same statement which I made was also what they said as I was talking with them and a few of their neighbors.  Further I also know several on Randolph and 12th street just north of the campus who are in favor of it.  The difference is that they aren't fussing and yelling.

Unfortunately just like most instances in our great ward some folks believe they speak for the entire ward even if it isn't the case and yet again this is a prime example.  This opposition isn't as large as many think and further as I have said there are previous examples in the city of such projects working.

Eric,

Please stop mischaracterizing the opposition to placement of a new
middle school at Turkey Thicket. The entire neighborhood immediately
surrounding Turkey Thicket is telling city officials that this is not a
good place to build the school -- for many legitimate reasons (including
safety reasons), not just to complain.

If city officials could open their minds to the possibility that (1)
they haven't thought of good reasons that this is a bad idea, and (2)
they haven't thought of some better alternative locations, this would be
a much more civil discussion.

As it stands, city officials -- without ever consulting the immediately
surrounding neighborhood -- made what they are calling a final decision
to site a middle school at Turkey Thicket. They are totally disregarding
the Turkey Thicket neighborhood's many RECENT years of fighting for
recreational facilities and the hard work of designing a new playground
(which is already supposed to be under construction for summer use).

What city officials propose is to take away many hours of heavily and
increasingly used recreational facilities at Turkey Thicket (rather than
expanding them). Nevermind what this neighborhood went through to get
those facilities. And nevermind what we think about re-purposing of this
public space in our neighborhood. We simply don't matter to city officials.
