Subject: Embrace the Challenge 150 Beds Available for July 2014 Class
Dear ANC Community Leader(s) and Partner(s):
The Interim Director of the Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy, Mr. Raynald Blackwell, and I would like to extend a challenge to each of the eight wards of the city to identify at least 8 girls and 12 boys per ward for our next class which will start Sunday July 13, 2014. We are currently accepting applications, and have space available for 150 eligible teens (50 girls and 100 boys) who meet the following eligibility requirements:
· Committed to making a change in their life.
· A citizen or legal resident of the United States and a resident of the District of Columbia.
· 16 to 18 years of age on the first day of admission.
· A high school drop-out or at risk of dropping out or seriously behind in credits.
· Voluntary (student wants to be here)
· Physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of completing the program.
· Drug Free: Students will be drug tested. This test will be conducted 40 – 45 days into the program. Those who fail this test will be sent home.
· No felony adjudications or felony convictions, awaiting trail, or currently in trial proceedings. We can accept those with misdemeanors.
The mission of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults.
We provide a highly structured residential environment with a long record of producing successful young men and women who previously struggled in school due to academic, behavioral, attendance or personal reasons. Working as individuals and in groups, students develop skills and characteristics to overcome the obstacles that held them back from being successful.
Throughout the five month program, cadets increase their ability and potential completing our program with the confidence and awareness to make positive choices for their future. Every student creates an action plan for their continued success after graduation. Students, with the help of parents, mentors, and staff members, develop an Action Plan to ensure a successful transition from Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy. These action plans encompass a student’s short term and long term goals for education, career and living situation.
If you know 16 to 18 years old, who wants to make a change in their life, this program is for them. Encourage them to be a part of this great FREE program.
