About Langley Elementary School 
We are a STEM School that focuses on "Inspiring Imagination, Inquiry, and Innovation." Our STEM Coordinator teaches hands-on science and math lessons to our K-2nd Grade students in our "Math and Science Garden." We also have a STEM Lab and Computer Lab in which students explore math and science through cutting edge science and computer programs. 
              
School Highlights 
● Recipient of $29,000 "Proving What's Possible" Grant in 2013 to increase field trip experiences that support the academic curriculum. 
● Selected as a Teacher Leadership Innovation (TLI) Pilot school in 2013 to develop teacher leadership and share best instructional practices. 
● Our First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team won the Judges' Award at a November 2013 regional competition. 
● Trained Early Childhood Education (ECE) Team in Year 4 of the Tools of the Mind Curriculum for pre-school through kindergarten students. 
● A full-time Spanish instructor (PS-5th Grade) who uses technology, music and hands-on activities to expose all students to Spanish. 
● Langley ES 3rd Grade students scored significantly higher on the 2014-2015 Unit Assessments #1 and #2 (aligned to Common Core) than the district average. 
● Langley ES 5th Grade students scored significantly higher on the 2014-2015 Unit Assessment #2 (aligned to Common Core) than the district average. 
● Selected as a Flamboyan Foundation school in 2013 to help increase parent engagement within the school. ● Two state-of-the art playgrounds, one designed especially for our youngest students, and two gymnasiums. 
● Winner of the "Sprint to Savings" DC Green Schools Challenge for two years in a row (SY13-14 and SY14-15) by reducing 36% of energy use. We will receive a $50,000 grant that will be used to promote our Energy Initiatives and make our school building more energy-efficient.
