In recognition of the 28th Anniversary of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, which is now celebrated by schools, colleges & Universities throughout the country, on Wed, Feb 11, 2015, the UDC Athletic Dept will recognized the Federal City College (now UDC) Women's Basketball Team named the "Pantherettes" for their selection by the then Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) to be one of five women basketball teams to play a "Game of Friendship" against the Women's National Basketball Team of China (PRC), prior to President Ford's first official visit as President to China to continue talks to normalize relations between the 2 countries.
At that time, the Pantherettes were ranked #1 in the Popular Sports Basketball Magazine preseason polls, with additional rankings from #2-#5 in 4 other sports magazines.
The recognition will be held during halftime of the scheduled UDC Women Firebirds v. Queens College game at the UDC Sports Complex, Bldg 47, 4200 Connecticut Ave NW. The game starts at 5:00pm, with halftime starting approx between 5:35-5:45pm.
The Sports Complex is located on the Yuma St NW side of the campus. Gen. Admission, $5.00, $2.00 for Sr. Citizens & Military & veterans. Public transportation, Metro Red Line to Van Ness-UDC stop, Metrobus: H2, L1 & L2 to the Van Ness Metro Station.The flyer is attached.
