I join other residents of the District of Columbia in prayer for the 1D MPD officer who was also shot on this night and is "fighting for her life". I also extend prayers to her family and friends.

Subject: BLM DC's Response to the Recent Shootings and Update on Rescheduled August Trainings
On August 8, 2020, a shooting broke out on the 3300 block of Dubois Place in Southeast and ended with the injury of over 20 community members and the loss of the precious life of Christopher Brown, a 17-year old father. During the upcoming weeks, BLM DC will be reaching out to the families and friends who were caught in the crossfire that night as well as doing some of our own internal healing around lost loved ones while supporting the trauma experienced by friends who were in the vicinity of the shooting. We will be focused on ways to help the community re-imagine safety, heal and strengthen communal ties. Out of respect for the immense pain the Ward 7 residents are feeling, we have rescheduled Cop Watch, Street Law 101, and the Participatory Defense training. The new dates of the trainings are below and can be found by visiting https://linktr.ee/blacklivesmatterdc Cop Watch Aug 17 @ 6:30pm Street Law 101 Sep 2 @ 6pm Participatory Defense TBD In addition, we encourage you to attend the Night Out For Safety and Liberation. True safety begins with the community. This means resources and programs that help in building shared sense of communal responsibility, communal belonging must be provided for black and brown communities.
This year, for NOSL DC 2020 on August 22nd from 3-5:30PM we will engage our community members from the safety of indoors, by offering a virtual Zoom session where we will explore the ways #WeKeepUsSafe , along the axis of personal, communal and system safety. We know and have learned from organizing that that communities targeted by racist and classist systems are denied access to safety and security across all levels, personal, communal and systemic - invite you to re-imagine, dream and create with us. Please RSVP to attend!
The East of the River Mutual Aid team will also be throwing its first in-person event in partnership with Night Out for Safety and Liberation DC to offer essential resources to residents in Wards 7 & 8. This event will be held on Friday, August 21 from 4-6 p.m. outside of Bread for the City's building at 1640 Good Hope Road SE. If you would like to donate any of the supplies requested in the flyer please contact eormutualaid@protonmail.ch . You can also sign up to volunteer : here.
