Easter at Plymouth was a spirited celebration. The combined choirs sang in all of their glory under the direction of Mr. Thomas McKenzie. The altar was magnificently decorated with easter lilies and tulips, and we received into membership Sister Sharron Tendai and Brother Jonathan Tendai (the wife and son of Brother Jelani Tendai). People gathered for worship in a spirit of great joy and anticipation of the festivities that would follow in worship as we marked the resurrection of Jesus the Christ. I preached on the subject, "The First Day of the Week," and how the resurrection changed the Sabbath for a majority of Christians from Saturday to Sunday. But there is also a deeper symbolic meaning, and that is the betrayals, the beatings, and the execution were last week, and this was now the first day of the week. I spoke about all of the struggles that we have gone through, the disappointments, and the grief, but that was all last week and this is the first day of the week. We understand in a profound way that the resurrection of Jesus is also our resurrection. Brothers and Sisters this is a new beginning because it is now the first day of the week!
...from one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded." (Luke 12.48b)
