Dear Ward 5,
One of the most important functions of the Council is to review and set the annual budget proposed by the Mayor. The Council's review of the Fiscal Year 2013 is currently underway. Over the next several weeks each government agency will appear before the relevant committee to speak to their request.
Council will accept some recommendations and change others; ultimately the final budget numbers will be discussed and voted on in the form of a bill called the Budget Request Act. The budget is scheduled to be voted on by the Council on May 15th.
The proposed budget for FY13 is $11.8 billion. Ward 5 will be impacted directly by both major portions of the budget; the operating budget (initiatives, programs, direct services, etc.) and the capital budget (construction, modernization, infrastructure, etc.).

On Saturday, April 14th, Team Hubbard participated in a number of Ward 5 beautification projects. Drew Hubbard, and supporters, worked alongside Woodridge South residents and Friends of Rhode Island Avenue (FORIA) volunteers for their community clean-up events.
The Team Hubbard volunteers cleaned out empty lots, landscaped boulevards, and picked up trash along the Rhode Island Ave and Bladensburg Road corridors.
