cheat_training_group First 2013 Decent Cheat Canyon (for most of us)

Hi Cheaters,

As you guys all know, this Saturday is our first trip up to the Cheat Canyon! Right now the Cheat is at 6 ft. link to gauge but we expect it to drop to below 5 ft. by Saturday.  (Note: the gauge that we use is painted on to the bridge at the put in.  It is equivalent to 10 ft less than the one at Albright.)  If the river is above 5 ft we will not paddle the Cheat but will find a substitute.  Also, if the Cheat is much above 3 ft., we may take a group to the Cheat Narrows.  We will all have to keep watching the levels. You should plan to bring the boat that you are most comfortable in.  

On Saturday morning we will meet at 6:30 am at the Gaithersburg Park and Ride at Exit 11 on I 270.  From DC, take exit 10, DO NOT GO TO EXIT 11. At the end of the ramp continue west on Clopper Rd.  At the light turn right on to Quince Orchard Rd.  Pass under the railroad bridge and turn right at the traffic light into the Park & Ride lot. 

If you are driving southbound on 270, just take exit 11 and go straight through the light into the Park & Ride Lot.  

Here we can arrange carpools and leave cars for the day. Plan to return to the Park & Ride about 10 pm. We will then head up to the put-in in Albright, WV. 

Directions: take 270 north toward Fredrick. Take exit 32 to merge on to I70 W to Hagerstown.  Merge onto I 68 W toward Hagerstown (this is a left exit). Take exit 23 Bruceton Mills.  Turn left at the end of the exit ramp.  You will drive past the gas station where you turn for the take out.  Pass Teter's Campground. The put in will be on the right just before a bridge that crosses the Cheat.  We will drop boats and passengers off here and the drivers will run shuttle down to the takeout.  My cell # is below in case anyone gets lost!
