Very kind, Jonathan...thank you! I'm glad you found it useful. The river is a great classroom and I honestly learn something every time I go out.

John,
Many thanks for your great instruction, yesterday.
I think the instruction you're providing is incredibly valuable.
I'm sure the other people you've been taking the time to teach, also truly appreciate your effort, care and instruction. Actually, this also shows, your insights into the art & skill/great appreciation of kayaking.
Cheat Training is always a humbling and challenging worthwhile experience and it seems to get better, thanks to all the instructors and leadership every year!!
Many thanks,

Subject: cheat_training_group A little homework --- no cheating!
Hi Fellow Cheaters!
As our first day on the Cheat this season approaches, you've got some homework to do.
I've compiled my own little Cheat River Guide, which I now make available to you for download --- through this special offer today only --- at the low, low price of...well, nothing. It's not endorsed, certified, approved, recommended or otherwise blessed by anyone. ;-) But it has been a collaboration of Cheaters over the years, most recently with the team that went out last Sunday.
The goal is not to memorize the guide. Instead, use it to help you begin to associate the key features and select your own lines down the river. Cheat Training is about building your confidence on the river --- physically AND mentally. So you don't necessarily have to know what's next, but you do have to recognize it when you get there. When race day comes, you'll need to be ready to take the river on your own. ..with the help of other racers and a great race safety team, of course.
For you first-timers, a realistic goal would be to begin to organize the river into the five sections, and then focus on recognizing and remembering the Big 5 features in Section 4. For the more experienced, use this guide to see if you can visualize some of the other features, like the bottom of Decision, Fist, Cue Ball, or that 3rd sneaky rapid below Pete Morgan that always seems to trip folks up (dog-leg right beside big boulder with offset holes in the run-out ;-) For the hardcore racers, well, you should be sending me tips and corrections for the next edition! ;-)
Learn it! Live it! Love it! ;-)
See ya out there...
JOHN
