[WardFive] A Changing World - still a generation away from 2013

Georgia High School to Host 1st Integrated Prom

Racial integration might be the norm in most of America, but at Wilcox County High School in South Georgia, parents still organize an annual segregated prom. When several students wanted an integrated prom, they had to raise their own money to make it happen, reports CBS News.

If any race other than Caucasian tries to attend the white prom, Bloodworth said they "would probably have the police come out there and escort them off the premises."

That was the case just last year as a biracial student was turned away by police ...

Wilcox County High School does not have an official, school-sponsored prom, or even a stance on the issue. This means that the private proms sponsored by students, and their parents, are legal.

So the girls are taking matters into their own hands ... but everyone is not fond of the idea.

"I actually put up posters for the integrated prom and we've had people ripping them down at the school," Bloodworth said.

On Friday, the students announced on their fundraising Facebook page that they reached their monetary goal to host their prom.

Through your generosity, we are happy and overjoyed to say that we have met our goal for our Prom. If you would like to continue donating, the monies will be used for scholarships for the students who have worked tirelessly for this Prom since its inception, as well as, for the future generation of leaders.

The world is saying that we are such an inspiration but to us you are the REAL INSPIRATION. You have confirmed our belief in the human spirit and that LOVE is a universal language, because GOD is love. We believe that, that LOVE is why you reached out to us with open hearts.
