Folks,
Given the community's longstanding interest and concerns about test cheating, and the pending start of DC CAS testing, please consider commenting on test security at the state board's public meeting next Wednesday, April 17
--Please note the change of venue to the Wilson Building
The Council will have a hearing on a proposed test integrity bill the next day. It mirrors much of what state education policy now mandates for schools and districts, but sets civil penalties for anyone caught cheating.

DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION INVITES COMMENTS ON TESTING INTEGRITY AND SCHEDULES VOTE ON
COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE RULEMAKING, MEETING TIME & LOCATION CHANGE
Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (DCSBOE) will hold a public meeting to discuss testing integrity in schools administrating statewide assessments. This opportunity parallels Councilmember David Catania's introduction of the "Testing Integrity Act of 2013." The bill seeks to establish protocols and procedures to ensure integrity of test results for statewide assessments. The public is invited to share their comments on the testing integrity in general, as well as comments on the proposed bill.
The State Board is also scheduling a vote on final rulemaking pertaining to compulsory attendance (DCMR Title 5, Chapter 21A, Compulsory Education and School Attendance).
The public meeting will occur on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 6:00 pm in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (a location change). All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.
Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at the meeting are asked to notify DCSBOE staff in advance by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by email at sboe@dc.gov and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business the Monday prior to the meeting. They should also bring fifteen (15) copies of their written statements with them to the meeting and are encouraged to submit one (1) electronic copy in advance.
The meeting will air live on District Knowledge Network (DKN) Comcast Channel 99, RCN Channel 18, and Fios Channel 12.
