DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS
DCPS Families,
DCPS has partnered with the Deputy Mayor for Education and DC Public Charter Schools to offer District families public school choice through the My School DC common application and common lottery. The common application and common lottery are designed to simplify the process for families and maximize the number of students who are matched with a school they choose.
The My School DC common application, available at www.myschooldc.org, is a single online application used to apply for:
· All DCPS PK3 (age 3) and PK4 (age 4) programs
· DCPS specialized high schools (grades 9–12)
· DCPS out-of-boundary schools (grades K–12)
Here's what you need to know to apply for a seat at a school of your choice for the 2014-2015 School Year:
· All DCPS schools are part of the My School DC common application and common lottery.
· The My School DC common lottery is a single, random lottery that determines placement for new students in PK3 or PK4, or for any student interested in attending a school outside of their boundary school. (Application high schools will determine placement based on the submitted application.)
· Student-school matches are based on the number of spaces available at each school; in-boundary preference (PK3/4 only); sibling, proximity, and other preferences; and each family's ranked order.
· While the application launched on Monday, December 16th, there is no advantage to applying early. Families should plan on submitting a student's application by the deadline for the student's intended grade.
· The application deadlines are as follows:
· Feb. 3, 2014, for grades 9-12
· March 3, 2014, for Pre-K (age 3) through grade 8.
· Families should list their schools in the order they would most like to attend, from one through twelve. Families are not required to select twelve schools; in fact, families should only select as many schools as they are ultimately interested in attending. Families will only be matched to schools listed on their lottery application.
You DO NOT need to apply for a seat in the common lottery:
· If your student is returning to their current school next year, you do not need to complete a lottery application. If your student will attend the "feeder" school next year (for example, the affiliated middle school for a given elementary school), you do not need to complete a lottery application.
· Families interested in attending their in-boundary school for grades Kindergarten through 12th, or the school in which they have a right to attend given the address of their District residence, do not have to complete a lottery application. (Please note that all PK3 and PK4 students must complete a lottery application, even for the in-boundary school.)
If you have any questions about the My School DC common application and common lottery, check the Frequently Asked Questions on www.myschooldc.org or call the DCPS Chancellor's Response Team (CRT) at 202-478-5738 Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
