Subject: [concerned4DCPS] Teaching for Change "racist"? on today's Education Town HallHello all,
As you might know, less than 10% of children's books published each year
feature characters of color (even fewer are written by authors of
color). But Teaching for Change -- the organization that, among other
endeavors, operates the bookstore at Busboys and Poets -- was called
"racist" by Rush Limbaugh for saying his books don't fit their mission.
At Limbaugh's urging, Teaching for Change has been barraged with ugly
messages from his listeners.
This morning, Education Town Hall (the radio program I help produce at
We Act Radio) features authors Zetta Elliott and Enid Lee, along with
Teaching for Change's Deborah Menkart, to discuss the state of
children's publishing and related issues.
