If you're thinking of buying a home but want more education about the process, you can attend one of two free home buyer seminars held each month by the D.C. Housing Finance Agency.
You can learn about the process of buying a home and get your questions answered by a realty agent and a loan officer. Anyone can attend — you don't have to be a D.C. resident to participate.
While you're there, you can learn about the DC Open Doors program, which offers a fully forgivable second loan to cover your minimum down payment requirements and a below market interest rate first mortgage to make the monthly payments more affordable. The current income limit for the DC Open Doors down payment assistance program is $125,580.
The free home buyer sessions will be held on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
The Oct. 21 seminar is scheduled to take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the finance agency's office at 815 Florida Ave. NW. Presenters include Desmond McKenna, a real estate agent with DC Home Buzz, and Alex Jaffe, a loan officer with First Home Mortgage. Free parking is available or attendees can take Metro to the U Street station.
For more information, visit www.dchfa.org. To RSVP, e-mail HomebuyerSeminar@dchfa.org.
