I agree Kevin.
We cannot afford to continue to let this happen in Ward 5.
We must stand together.

Hello Ward 5!
Please see a new post about the Mayor’s Homeward plan to end homelessness — and a snippet from it below. Please use whatever means you have to raise your concerns with the mayor and DC Council about the industrial site on 25th Pl NE that is closer to a strip club than a grocery store.
Ward's 5 Kenya McDuffie wrangled with the City administrator Rashad Young at the hearing. McDuffie asked if the administration would reconsider.
"Can we work together with residents to develop an alternative site? Can we do that?" McDuffie asked Young. "I'm not making that commitment," Young said.
At the hearing, there seemed to be a suggestion if Ward 5 could agree on one site, the administration would consider it, but just maybe.
Ward 5, this is the same Mayor that says, “This is your government. Your priorities are our priorities,” yet she does whatever she wants ignoring the will of the people.
Also, check out http://homewarddc.org/ and http://www.dchomelessplan.com/
Please send an email to all council members to let them know that closing DC General to place our most vulnerable in an industrial wasteland is not the answer. The Ward 5 site is located on a dead end street, isolated from the residential community. The Ward 5 homeless shelter site is in a food desert and does not have retail amenities necessary to be self-sufficient. At nearly 2.1 million dollars a year for a dormitory style facility with shared bathrooms, I would think the Mayor would work with Ward 5 resident to find a more suitable site.
Sincerely,
Kevin Mullone
