Africa World Now Project and BloomBars present Frantz Fanon: His Life, His Struggle, His Work, by Cheikh Djemai (2001, 52 min, French and Arabic with English subtitles). Frantz Fanon: His Life, His Struggle, His Work traces the short and intense life of Frantz Fanon, a Martinique-born French psychiatrist, philosopher, writer and revolutionary, who was one of the great thinkers of the 20th century. Fanon's writings had a profound impact on civil rights, anti-colonialism, and black consciousness movements around the world. His 1952 book, Black Skin, White Masks, offers a penetrating analysis of racism and of the ways in which it is internalized by its victims. While secretly aiding the rebels of the Algerian anti-colonial war as a doctor in Algeria, Fanon cared for victims and perpetrators alike, producing case notes that shed invaluable light on the psychic traumas of colonial war. View the trailer of Frantz Fanon: His Life, His Struggle, His Work. Our screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Mwiza Munthali, Host & Co-Producer of Africa Now! on WPFW 89.3FM.
*Suggested Donation: $10. Proceeds support both the Africa World Now Project and BloomBars. Free organic popcorn.
