[WardFive] End of summer events, and DACA rally tomorrow

As we come to the end of summer, I hope you take time to enjoy some of the many activities going on in our city.  Starting with the Ward 7 Day tomorrow (Saturday), and Adams Morgan Day on Sunday, to the many other celebrations in the middle of the month, as we start Hispanic/Latino Heritage month (September 15-October 15).  Also, if you have time, please join us for a short rally in support of DACA tomorrow at 11AM (see below for details).

 

Lastly, SAVE THE DATE for a DC Statehood Lobby Day in Congress on October 12th, I will send you more information later.

Now in its 39th year, Adams Morgan Day is Washington’s longest running neighborhood festival. Adams Morgan Day 2017 will be a family-friendly celebration with music, art and activities for all ages. We welcome residents and visitors alike to meet our neighborhood businesses, artists and service organizations. While there will be free activities and specials all over the neighborhood on September 10, some of our restaurants and businesses have chosen to support the event by offering additional specials for attendees who make a donation.

32nd Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards

The Mayor's Arts Awards are the most prestigious honors conferred by the District on individual artists, teachers and nonprofit organizations. At the public awards ceremony in September, three individuals will be recognized as special honorees. Wilhelmina Cole Holladay, co-founder of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, will receive the Mayor's Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement. Ari Roth, artistic director of Mosaic Theatre Company, will receive the Mayor's Arts Award for Visionary Leadership. Jazz musician and educator Davey Yarborough will receive the Mayor's Arts Award for Distinguished Honor.

Dialogue on Diversity: 2017 Entrepreneurship /IT Conference

H Street Festival

H Street Festival is one of the most anticipated and highly attended single day festivals in Washington D.C.  The festival is 11 blocks long and has 14 staging areas that are diversely themed and programmed to target the different segments of audiences.  The staging areas feature music of different genres, dance, youth based performances, interactive children’s program, fashion, heritage arts, poetry and many more.

Fiesta DC Parade and Festival 2017

Fiesta DC Latino Festival has been held each year in Washington DC for forty-five years. It is an annual celebration of Latino culture that features a Parade of Nations that displays and preserves the Native Latino cultural dance troupes as well as contemporary local groups from civic organizations, schools, and performers.
