Neighbors,
Councilmember McDuffie has introduced legislation that could have a great impact on alleviating major traffic issues throughout Ward 5 and the District. I am writing to pass along some information about the hearing for this legislation that has just been rescheduled by Councilmember Cheh’s committee for this coming Monday September 25th. We need to make sure that our neighborhoods are represented so if you are able, please come down and testify in person here at the Wilson building or via written testimony. We also ask that you please forward this and encourage your constituents to do so as well. This is for the Proper Planning for Future Growth Amendment Act of 2017. Details are below.
The bill is called the Proper Planning for Future Grown Amendment Act of 2017. Details are below. And a flyer for the hearing is attached or can be downloaded here: http://www.kenyanmcduffie.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Proper-Planning-Act-HEARING-1-Pager_FINAL.pdf
The Proper Planning for Future Growth Amendment Act of 2017
This legislation will require the D.C. Department of Transportation and the D.C. Office of Planning to work together on a biennial report analyzing each ward's current transportation infrastructure and future needs. While individual projects perform traffic studies as part of their analysis of development impacts and Small Area Plans look at the traffic patterns within a prescribed area or neighborhood, these approaches are often too narrow. This legislation will broaden the outlook of transportation studies, and make this process a regular occurrence rather than an ad hoc response to a given development.
