Good evening,

I really appreciate you forwarding my information to other boaters from this area. I only really know boaters and playboaters down where I went to school in Blacksburg, VA and would love to get to know the Virginia and Maryland chutes. Feel free to pass along this email or my phone number 571-265-5524.

I know you're moving out west a little pretty soon here, but if you know about any groups going out or any events. Please let me know.

Thanks again,
Kevin Bueno

Re: cheat_training_group Saturday should be fun! Level forecast is 6.3 ft.

Just a reminder: the AHPS system is notorious for over predicting river gage. In fact, it's down to 5.8' now.

Cheers,

cheat_training_group Cheat Training Week 4

Hi Cheaters,

The midway point is almost upon us!

Yesterday some of our staff went up to the Cheat to check out the road (the same or worse than ever) and remember the lines on our favorite rapids (awesome as always). We are excited to take you up there in two weeks! But there is work to be done in the meantime.

For tonight's workout, Ashley Nee will be leading a forward stroke clinic at the put-in and we will be filming your forward stroke. Be sure to come tonight! It is possible to make it up Maryland Chute at this level, give it 3 tries! If not head to center. Wet Bottom will be tough- give it 3 tries, too- then carry up! You can carry on the MD or VA side. No shame! This is a great level to work on surfing Rocky. It is also possible to attain the back channel- give that a try! There are lots of options above wet bottom today. We will meet in the eddy below Wet Bottom at 7:30 to paddle hard together back to Anglers.

For Saturday, the river level will be higher which will make for a fun run. We will meet as usual at Sycamore at 9 am. After heading down to below Rocky (likely through the back channel), we will do a mass start. The goal is to paddle without stopping all the way to Sycamore. We call it a race but it is really a way to challenge yourself and paddle hard to get ready for the 11 miles of the Cheat Canyon. The real Potomac Downriver Race is May 12th. More info here: http://www.ccadc.org/content.aspx?page_id=87&club_id=394800&item_id=769430

LAKS has posted some great paddling opportunities for after Cheat ends-
Oregon Semi-stouts paddle the best whitewater in Oregon with Ashley Nee and eNRG kayaking!
Upper Yough Training paddle 2x a week with the goal of running the Miracle Mile
Upper Yough Lite for those who want to train and run rivers but aren't quite ready for the Upper.

See you tonight!

Subject: Buses replace Red Line trains between Rhode Island Ave & Fort Totten tonight beginning at 10:00 p.m.

Due the on-going Monroe Street bridge DDOT renewal project near Brookland, buses will replace Red Line train service between Rhode Island Ave & Fort Totten to allow for the demolition of the old portion of the bridge. Starting at 10:00 p.m. until system closing tonight – Monday, March 26 – buses will replace Red Line train service between Rhode Island Ave & Fort Totten.

Train service will be available in two segments – (1) between Shady Grove & Rhode Island Ave; (2) between Glenmont and Fort Totten.  Bus shuttles will serve Rhode Island Ave, Brookland and Fort Totten stations every 15 minutes.  If you are traveling to/from downtown DC stations, consider using the Green/Yellow lines between Gallery Place and Fort Totten to avoid the work zone.

Also please note, the last train from Glenmont in the direction of Fort Totten will depart 30 minutes earlier than normal.

For service adjustments on all Metrorail lines go to wmata.com/weekday

Re: cheat_training_group Fwd: Why He Kayaked Across the Atlantic at 70 (for the Third Time) - The New York Times

Great article.

I loved this bit:

"Ocean kayaking is catastrophically monotonous. The primary challenge is not physical. Doba describes the tedium as a form of dementia: "Hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of repetitions. The brain is removed from the process.""

And that is why I avoid flatwater when possible. ;)
