I was impressed with everyone on that long slog out of and back to Fletchers. I think that it was great to have everyone paddling straight for almost 2 hours. Your Cheat Race time will be somewhere between 1:15- 2 hours so the endurance work you do now will certainly help.
Tonight we will be filming your forward stroke at Widewater. Please carry up to Widewater, arriving between 5 and 6 pm. Check in with me and or Ashley Nee. After filming we will be going down and around Offut island before heading up river. I would like for you to try both MD and VA before heading up to Wet Bottom. The goal tonight is to paddle the entire time. We have been training now for almost a month we should see our stamina start to increase. I know that it is hard to stay out there for the full workout, but it is so good for you. We will be turning around and racing from wet bottom at 7:30. If you haven't made it up there, then wait for the group paddling down to catch you and then join them.
Registration for the Cheat Race is now up— http://cheatfest.org/activities-2/down-river-race/
If you register early it is cheaper and you are guaranteed to get the size shirt you want. And they are sweet this year! You will be asked for a team name when you register. The top three finish times for each team will be used to calculate your team time. I recommend choosing 4 buddies that paddle at a similar pace to you and create a team name. If not you can always use Calleva Dingos, Calleva Wombats, Calleva Koalas, etc. Staff usually uses Mac's LAKS but we can discuss this over the weekend :)
Just a reminder that we will have a 7 am paddle this Saturday in addition to the 9 am paddle to allow people to attend Nancy's memorial paddle. Both times will be a timed run from Rocky to Sycamore. So far I only have 4 paddlers for the 7 am time. Please do let us know if you plan to attend. We want to be sure that we the right number of staff for each time.
Paddle hard and with Grit!
