In an effort to combat the ongoing “War on Women,” the D.C. Federation of Democratic Women (DCFDW) is partnering with numerous women’s organizations, unions and churches to sponsor a “1,000 Women Across Washington Rally” on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church located at 1518 M Street, NW. The Rally will focus special attention on increased voter participation; and countering the threat of voter suppression and intimidation. The Rally will feature prominent speakers who will address the importance of increased voter participation and civic engagement.
This effort is part of the National Federation of Democratic Women’s (NFDW) thrust to engage thousands of women across the Eastern Region of United States to:
Keep the White House in 2012
Take Back Congress; and
Position More Women for Elective and Appointed Official Offices
According to Linda Jefferson, NFDW Eastern Region Chairman, “We have taken on these pivotal issues of the 2012 election, because if left unchecked, voter suppression will significantly dilute the voting strength of students, young voters, the working poor; elderly and infirm citizens.” It’s also a massive endeavor to show the influence women have on family members, colleagues, neighborhoods, communities and the world when they rally their political will and work together.
Rally Chair, Mrs. Lillian Huff indicated that “The Rally is an effort to bring together women of all incomes, ethnicities and creeds to remind them and others of the critical difference they can make if they amass their enormous power.” We are asking other women’s organization to partner with us by promoting the Rally with their members, constituents, and community contacts. As partners, the DCFDW will add the organization logo to the Rally flyer, press releases and advisories and will post partner organization’s names and logos in event reminders on Facebook and Twitter. If any organization would like to be a partner or if they need additional information, they are asked to send their logo and a brief description of their organization to lhjeferson@aol.com.
Everyone is invited to participate as we come together and Rally to “empower 1,000 women across Washington.”
The D.C. Federation of Democratic Women promotes advocacy, training and candidacy to empower and successfully engage women at all levels of the Democratic Party.
