Last night we went to Greenbelt for the drumming and the fireworks display. We got back to Brookland around ten or so and what a surprise! I live near Turkey Thicket and as we came down Shephard we were treated to a spontaneous display of fireworks put on by competing private citizens ... just folks who have fun making loud noises and watching the reactions of others and their peers. ( I know, I know, it's dangerous) Yes, we all know that people can and do get hurt doing this ... not my point here.
Most of the individual events were rather small but then there were a good number whose complexity and volume actually rivaled the professional event we saw in Greenbelt! There must have been six or ten individual groups all competing (very low key) for the attention of the onlookers. It was more exciting possibly because we all know the danger involved ... in a way like watching a high speed car race on the track ... hoping for the safety of the driver's but anticipating and excitement of a crash ... there were no crashes that we say last night ... even the police drove by and ignored the events.
It was really fun and I thank my Turkey Thicket neighbors for the entertainment and the individuality of their initiative.

It's just one day. I just hope they have some supervision by adults. Just my opinion. I don't make the rules or enforce them. I myself don't like noise but I know the kida enjoy it.

Every time the latter happens something falls as it shakes my whole house and goes on till after 11. On Hamlin they do have illegal ones that shoot up and open like the ones on the mall. I don't have a problem with those as they usually finish up around 10.

Only some types of fireworks are illegal. Anydays, there are 360+ days in a year. Can kids have this type of fun on one? Hell, there is not much they get to enjoy!Also, lots of times kids takes cues from their parents on being terrified of varuous things. Happy 4th of July!
I have started to dread the 4th. On our block and many others blast off
fireworks that are illegal and dangerous. Last year it went beyond 11pm and
way past my kid's bedtime. My son is now terrified of fireworks. For the
past two years I have called 311 but they never come. Any advise? or just
let it go for one day of fun for some and me picking up another shattered
picture that falls off my wall from a blast....
