Volunteers are needed for the race.
If you are not racing, and would still like to be part of the fun, volunteer to help. We need safety boats, check-in desk staff, food prep helpers, and race finish assistants. Contact Howard Morland hbmorland@aol.com or call him at (703) 525-1429.
Safety Boaters for the Downriver Race
CCA needs safety boaters for the CCA Potomac Downriver Race, Saturday May 17, with a backup date of Saturday May 24. Course depends on levels. 5' and under, start is at the rocky cove on the Maryland side below Rocky Island wave. Between 5' and 6', the start is at Anglers. Over 6', postponed. The finish is the channel between Sycamore Island and the towpath. The time commitment is about 8 or 9 AM to about 1 PM. Organizational details will be forthcoming closer to the race date.
We are looking to get 8 to a dozen volunteers, to work in pairs, at these locations:
Stubblefield, Yellow Falls, Maryland Chute, Wet Bottom, maybe S-Turn (for boaters running S-Turn to get to the start), and maybe upstream of Sycamore Island.
The primary responsibility is assisting swimmers and helping recover swamped boats and gear. At Sycamore, the primary purpose is to ensure racers turn into the shore channel and don't keep paddling towards Brookmont.
