DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SEEKS
TWO STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO THE STATE BOARD
Washington, DC – The State Board of Education seeks two (2) student representatives to act as a connection between the student population of the District of Columbia and educational policymakers. The State Board is seeking candidates who display leadership, are passionate about their role in their community and want the opportunity to be involved with the District of Columbia educational system.
The application is attached to this release and will be available online at http://sboe.dc.gov/page/student-representatives. Additionally, applications will be sent electronically to school leaders and principals and will be available through community organizations. Applications may also be picked up at the State Board of Education office at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 723N, Washington, DC 20001.
Student Representatives are responsible for:
- Attending and actively participating in approximately six (6) hours per month in two (2) scheduled meetings, usually scheduled for the first and third Wednesday evening of the month;
- Participating and exchanging on current activities (Public Meetings, Public Hearings, Working Sessions, webinars, community engagement opportunities, etc.);
- Serving as a student representative for a full school year with the position available upon reapplication annually; and
- Sharing their perspective and questions on issues before the State Board.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a District of Columbia resident;
- Be a junior or senior in either a traditional public high school (District of Columbia Public Schools) or a public charter high school; and
- Possess a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
Applicants who wish to submit their application via email may do so at sboe@dc.gov. All applications must be received in the office of the State Board of Education by close of business Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
