[WardFive] FYI: Upcoming Education Meetings and Hearings

There are a number of important dates and hearings coming up that we want to make sure that you are aware of.  Please pay special attention to the Student Assignment and School Boundaries community meetings that will be held June 16-19 (specifically the one on Tuesday, June 17th that will take place in Ward 5) and our Ward Five Council on Education meeting on Tuesday, June 24th. June 12:  DC Board of Education Public Round Table will be held on June 12 at 5:30pm at 441 4th St NW in the Old Council Chambers. A copy of the press release for the Round table is attached.

Student Assignment/School Boundaries Community Meetings
June 16- Student Assignment, Boundary Review Process Meeting - Savoy Elementary  6 to 8pm
Breakout Groups for feeders to: Anacostia, Ballou, Woodson
June 17- Student Assignment, Boundary Review Process Meeting - Dunbar High 6 to 8pm
Breakout Groups for feeders to: Cardozo, Dunbar, Eastern
June 19 - Student Assignment Boundary Review Process Meeting - Takoma EC 6 to 8 pm
Breakout Groups for feeders to: Wilson, Roosevelt, Coolidge 

June 19- Council Hearing on Special Education Proposed Bills attached - 11am
(Those who wish to testify are asked to telephone the Committee on Education at 202-724-8061 or e-mail Jamaal Jordan, at jjordan@dccouncil.us, and furnish their name, address, telephone number, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 10 copies of written testimony. Individuals will have three minutes to present their testimony.)

June 24 - Ward Five Council on Education June Meeting from 6:30 to 8:30p at the Lamond-Riggs Library (5401 South Dakota Ave NE) - this month's meeting will focus on navigating/understanding the DC education landscape. We will have representatives from each of the major education agencies and organizations in attendance to discuss this important topic. We will also vote on executive officers for the 2014-16 school years.
