Subject: Advisory Committee Releases Final Student Assignment Recommendations

Dear Education Stakeholder:

After nearly a year-long, comprehensive public engagement process, the Advisory Committee on Student Assignment has made final recommendations for revising DCPS school boundaries and related student assignment policies. The Mayor has accepted the Committee's final recommendations, including the recommended DCPS school boundaries. Implementation of the school boundary changes will start in school year 2015-16. We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our families. Accordingly, no one will be impacted by these changes this school year (SY2014-15). The new boundaries and feeder patterns will begin to go into effect for next school year (SY2015-2016), with extensive phase-in policies. No student will have to leave their current DCPS school based on these changes.

DCPS will manage the implementation plan and timeline for the broader policy recommendations made by the Committee. You can find the final recommendations, including all the new boundary maps on the DCPS website here and on the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education's website hereImpacted families will also be receiving a letter mailed to their home address notifying them of the changes.

If you have any questions regarding this process or these recommendations, please email dme.studentassignment@dc.gov or call the DCPS Chancellor's Response Team at 202-478-5738.

Kindly,

Josephine Bias Robinson
