ACTION ALERT! Rally on Tuesday to demand access to information on IMPACT On Tuesday, June 30 at 9 am join fellow DCPS educators, parents and other WTU allies at a rally at the Wilson Building to demand access to important IMPACT information. That morning the City Council will vote on legislation that would cut off access to information about the teacher evaluation system. Your union needs this data to judge the fairness and effectiveness of IMPACT, and to determine whether D.C. Public Schools' policies are really helping our children succeed. Even though this is information that is used to make decisions that directly impact District kids, their schools and their teachers, there's been no public hearings or community input on the legislation. The Washington Teachers' Union (WTU) has always stood for transparent decision-making and open government, so we're urging the mayor and all council members to remove from the Mayor's Budget Support Act the provision that would permanently prevent the union, educators, and others from having access to information that is used to make major decisions--such as testing, school closures, curriculum content, and the firing of more than 700 teachers over the past 5 years. The WTU is seeking this data with teachers' names and other personal information removed. This is an urgent matter!
Support your union in demanding real open government and transparency from our school and city leaders. Be at the Wilson Building (14th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW) on Tuesday morning at 9 and let David Grosso, chair of the council's education committee, and other council members know that you strongly oppose keeping important IMPACT evaluation data secret. Send us an email at dialogue@wtulocal6.net and let us know you'll be joining us! |
