Georgetown University law professor Paul Butler clearly articulated my feelings and successfully countered the argument currently being proffered by whites who say they support the removal of the Confederate battle flag from government controlled space in public buildings and grounds, but feel that their ancestors who fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War should nonetheless be honored for their sacrifices. Few black so-called intellectuals are willing to publicly assert what Professor Butler stated. l implore recipients of this particular email to take the time to view the interview with Professor Butler and the subsequent commentary by Dr. Boyce Watkins. Dr. Watkins compliments Professor Butler for having the courage to publicly speak out against those who fought for the Confederacy in an effort to continue the enslavement of our African forefathers, but perhaps more importantly, Watkins focuses on the importance being a well cultivated critical thinker. l agree with Dr. Watkins' conclusion that having graduated from a prestigious college or university doesn't guarantee that the individual possesses critical thinking skills. For anyone uncertain what critical thinking actually is, or who is raising or mentoring children, l strongly urge you to GOOGLE http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/defining-critical-thinking/766 for assistance in explaining this concept. Today's futuristic global environment appears to demand that anyone planning on educational, economic and social success will need to have a keen conceptualization of critical thinking. Hopefully, the data contained in this email will be of use to some of my family members, friends and email associates. Be Blessed.
