[WardFive] RE: Thank you Ward 5 (Discussion on Homeless Shelter Site)

Hello Ward 5! On behalf of the Woodridge South and Langdon Park Community Associations, we want to say thank you to our residents, ANC Commissioners, Community and Civic Leaders and to Councilmember McDuffie for attending the meeting last night to discuss the Mayor's proposed site location for our homeless citizens.  We also want to give a special thank you to Pastor Sims and the church family at New Canaan Baptist for hosting us and for being an integral part of our community. It was so refreshing to see the Ward 5 residents come together to be part of the conversation and solution to support our homeless citizens.  There are many challenges in Ward 5, particularly with our homeless population, but we understand the need to protect and support our most vulnerable. We do so each and every day. The energy, vibrancy, wisdom, and brain power that each of you brought last night demonstrates our power and resolve.  As a result, we were able to come up with several alternative solutions that would ensure our homeless citizens maintain their dignity while residing in a safe and healthy environment.   Over the next few days, you should expect to receive detailed notes from our meeting along with information regarding the hearing before the city council that will take place March 17th.  We invite you to help us continue to the conversation with neighbors, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, non-governmental organization, our elected councilmembers, and most importantly our homeless citizens who also need a voice.
