Hey Snow People,
Thanks Jen for the email. I hope everyone has thawed out from the refreshing paddle on Saturday! Everyone did such an amazing job out there! I wish I could of seen the other group because it sounds like you all grew a lot together! The group Patrick and I were with did an absolutely amazing job. I would like to congratulate Mike and Johnny for doing their first Cheat River trip in a BLIZZARD! They both had smooth lines and frozen hair days.
When I saw everyone at the take out I only saw shivering smiles, cold cold beer (thanks Mark), and frozen spray skirts. I would to thank everyone for dressing appropriately for the weather conditions. I know we will all remember Saturday for a long time to come!
I would like us all to look forward to next weekend forecast and see how much colder its going to be next Saturday!
See you all Weds!
PADDLE EVERYWHERE!

Dear Cheat gang,--Wow, what a day! That was my personal-worst kayak weather ever. We've had first-Cheat days with snow, with freezing temps, and other days with strong headwinds, but yesterday was a trifecta of challenges. Add in some nerves, and I know that it was very challenging for some of you (I know this, because i've been listening to a fair bit of moaning and groaning and general exhaustion around my home this morning.... just sayin'). A lot of character building got done yesterday.Fear and cold will each burn a lot of calories, and together, well, that will burn through energy reserves pretty quickly. Having a successful whitewater day oftentimes means gathering up your inner reserves to manage all those challenges and focus on the task at hand, whether it is running the rapid, keeping up speed and endurance, rolling with a head freeze, or swimming and then getting back in the boat and paddling some more. Those are really tough things to do - we all know that, and we've all been there.Thank you all for pulling it all together to make it a great day on the river, despite the challenges. Everyone I saw paddled very very well, had excellent focus, and showed tremendous river courtesy and group support. What a team!Thank you all - you rock!! Team Calleva-LAKS is Number One!!-jen sassp.s. - Thanks Xan for the energy shots, and thanks Megan for the hot tea at the takeout. And big thanks to Megan for the great leadership and smooth lines - the day was better because of you!--
